The 2025 Grammys

I’m going to start off by admitting something: I didn’t watch the Grammys this year. I had an assignment due that night that I spent (no joke) 7 hours on. Needless to say, I turned it in and went to bed. I know everything Grammys is old news by now – ‘tis the season of…

I’m going to start off by admitting something: I didn’t watch the Grammys this year. I had an assignment due that night that I spent (no joke) 7 hours on. Needless to say, I turned it in and went to bed. I know everything Grammys is old news by now – ‘tis the season of the 21st century and news getting old fast – but I figured better late than never. I’ve consumed a lot of media over the past few days, and finally feel like I have a solid grasp on everything. So, without further ado, here are my thoughts on the Grammys.

The winners:

Kendrick Lamar winning BOTH Record and Song of the Year is absolutely crazy. Billie Eilish should’ve won at least one of the two, if not both. His song is a vibe, I’m not going to lie, but not two-Grammy worthy. In fact, Kendrick Lamar won every single Grammy he was nominated for (ROTY, SOTY, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance).

I will hear absolutely NO complaints on Beyonce winning Album of the Year. What about Billie you ask? Beyonce has been making music for over two decades and has never won AOTY. You know who has? Billie Eilish. Now don’t get me wrong, Billie’s album was phenomenal. It’s impossible to compare the two because they’re both so different, but yes she deserved to win. However, in the sense of fairness, and in the light of an incredible country album to boot, Beyonce’s win was more than well-deserved.

Chappell Roan won Best New Artist which surprised absolutely no one. Let’s ignore the fact that my prediction was Sabrina Carpenter, okay? Chappell is the quintessential definition of best new artist, so at least the Grammys got something right.

Where I’m going to make some people mad (maybe), is with my slight disappointment in Sabrina winning both Best Pop Solo and Best Pop Vocal Album. Billie Eilish??? It’s actually like she didn’t exist, which is crazy. I love Sabrina, but no way her album beats Billie’s. The production alone was insane.

Beyonce’s reaction to winning Best Country Album was great. I heard she won that award before they announced AOTY, so I was glad that she was getting recognition for “Cowboy Carter.” Now that I know she won AOTY, I can admit that maybe someone else should’ve won that category. But her album is a country album and that’s that.

The red carpet:

Definitely didn’t think there would be anything noticeable enough for this to be its own section but here we are. Let’s just address the elephant in the room. What in the world was Kanye thinking? In case you missed the details, Kanye and his new wife showed up uninvited to the red carpet. Kanye’s wife wore a 100% sheer dress. Like completely sheer. No applique artfully placed. Everything on show. To a red carpet she wasn’t invited to. Suffice it to say, they were escorted from the event.

Chappell Roan was easily the best dressed. Miley Cyrus and Beyonce also looked incredible. Honorable mention to Kelsea Ballerini (with Chase Stokes) and Teddy Swims. My girl Taylor looked the best she’s ever looked. Someone posted something about how great her legs looked and the first caption was “those legs carried the Eras tour,” which I thought was pretty funny. The big question of course was whether the “T” leg chain stands for Taylor or Travis. She also wore red, and the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl next week (Go Birds!!).

In conclusion, the Grammys are never dull. There were some incredible live performances, which I watched via social media, some red carpet drama (Kanye looking at you), and some shocking wins (and non-wins). Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift both walked away empty-handed. Taylor seemed to have a great time in the audience though, which is the support and fun we love to see. And Kendrick Lamar, out of all people, swept the 2025 Grammys. Good for him, I guess.
